Dunduns are the cylindrical, double-headed, bass drums that create a melodic bass line in the West African, djembe orchestra. Also called “dunun,” they provide the rhythmic foundation for djembe music and are essential in understanding and mastering djembe drumming.
Inspired by Mamady Keita and other African drum masters, Beverly teaches ”village style,” exploring the beauty and magic of three part, layered dunun orchestrations and their relationship with the djembe parts. Inside of the music we build rhythmic understanding and explore connections to expressions in the African Diaspora.
