Percussionist for Hire
As a percussionist, Beverly is available to work with bands and collaborate on projects locally and globally. She is a ”team player” and brings honesty, passion, humility, sensitivity, cultural integrity into every note. She has more than a decade of touring experience in major venues around the world.
One Woman Show
“Hand to Heart”
A woman of many colors, Beverly, shares real-life tales of global adventures in the world of the drum. She weaves colorful, rhythmic tapestries on collected and homemade percussion; blending music, movement, and spoken word to explore issues of race, gender and cultural identity in America.

Since 1998, Beverly has toured internationally with Grammy nominated jazz vocalist, Nnenna Freelon in such venues as the Kennedy Center, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Umbria Jazz Festival. Television credits include appearances on CBS “Good Morning,” BET Jazz, UNC-TV’s “Our State” and WRAL’s award winning, “Smart Start Kids.”
Beverly also performs with “Brazilian Soul”, a Brazilian music duo or treo led by Brazilian guitarist and vocalist Paulo Lopes.
Ensembles
“Drums Alive Duo or Ensemble”
Embracing the music of Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and the USA, Beverly and dancer/drummer, Andrea Woods Valdez (www.souloworks.com), guide audiences in high energy, rhythmic adventure, connecting culture and curriculum.
Drums Alive is adapted for children and family audiences as well as adult programming. When the budget and venue allows, it is presented as a trio or larger ensemble.
“Tambor Vivo”
This ensemble of professional and community-based percussionists, blends Cuban rhythm orchestrations with Carolina spice and presents musical inspirations from the amazingly rich and complex body of music in the Afro-Cuban drumming tradition.

“Percussive Jazz Theater”
This 4 to 8-piece ensemble embraces a marriage of jazz with percussive inspirations and traditions of Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas, featuring a diverse array of world percussion as well as traditional jazz instrumentation.

Community Residencies
Community Residency activities may include performances and/or workshops. They often involve ongoing visits to a particular population, or can be one-time workshops or demonstrations in various community settings including schools, community centers, libraries and theaters.
Studio Work
Beverly is available for percussion accompaniment for studio recordings. Beverly’s instrument and expertise enhance recordings in many genres.
Music for Dancers
Beverly’s experience in the dance world covers many decades of performance, collaboration, and accompaniment.
Beverly’s CD Movin’ Up is intended as accompaniment for dance.
This recording is an experiment in polyrhythms, tones, textures, shape and time. Drawing from the musical cultures of Africa, Brazil, the Caribbean and North Carolina, it features a variety of grooves that everyone can easily hear and understand. It was developed for teaching class-rhythms that are easy to count, clear entrances, extended length, and a variety of time signatures and tempos.
